Management Systems

BPMS can work with clients to review their existing management system, their component sub-systems, or individual processes to ensure these fully match requirements. Alternatively we can support the client's own review or development of a suitable management system.

Integration of all requirements

The perceived requirement for a management system may be based on a variety of concerns:

- A need to ensure legal compliance

- A need to imposed efficient processes where these affect costs or overall performance

- A need to imposed effective processes where these influence the end product

- A desire to have a global mechanism of policy / strategy deployment

- A desire to demonstrate consistency and expertise as part of the product identity

- A requirement for ISO 9001, 14001, or OHSAS 18001 compliance

Whatever the instigating factors may be, a well structured management system will allow realization of all these requirements in a structured and comprehensive way.

Quality Excellence

Excellent organizational design, with processes managed and improved to fully satisfy, and generate increasing value for, customers and other stakeholders, is one of the five enabling criteria of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) model for excellence.

The integration of the necessary systems and processes based on the concept of adhering to the Viable System Model forms a strong platform to support all aspects of obtaining quality excellence.

Strategy Deployment

If a strategy is really going to drive the future outcome it must be kept in focus and there must be a mechanism of influence within the organization. This mechanism must translate strategy into clear operational targets so that actions can be defined, tracked, and measured. These actions then need to be prioritized and coordinated in line with this strategy.

There must also be alignment of the organization to the strategy so that all parties obtain the correct share of the available resources, and pull in the same direction.

Strategy needs to be a continuous process - not a once a year event. It needs to be the daily concern of everyone - not just management.

Strategy needs to be comprehensive, to consider performance measurement and improvement, not only in financial terms but also considering the perspectives of the customer, internal processes, and the potential for learning and growth.

Your strategy can be deployed and supported by:

- A management system containing a policy statement, that sets out how you want things done

- Key targets set for the whole organisation

- Individual bonus payments linked to key targets

- Conferences, workshops and discussion forums

- Training and development for your way of doing things

- Internal audits seen as an opportunity for 2-way discussion

- Daily discussion of expectations and values

The Management System, working on a platform of shared information, defines the processes at all business locations:

- Management review

- Deployment of targets, integrating them into a plan, including quality, environmental, health & safety targets

- Management of customer relations

- Internal and external communication

- Improvement management and corrective actions

- Audits

ISO compliance and certification

Systems should not be set up solely with the objective of achieving ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification - with possible duplication to fulfill the real business requirements. If the requirement is embedded in the management system, ISO certification is then less a burden and more a mechanism to help and assure management that the required elements are in place, are active, and the results kept in focus.
